Overwatch 2’s newest hero – Freja – is set to enter the fray as the 43rd hero on the roster. Freja is a Danish bounty hunter, formerly of Overwatch, and is promised to be one of the most mechanically challenging heroes on the roster to pilot.

Freja was originally revealed as part of the massive Spotlight update that promises sweeping changes for Season 15 and beyond. Check out our more comprehensive cover here.

Wielding a crossbow and flaunting high mobility, Freja is expected to dominate the battlefield in the hands of experts, requiring precision to land her shots while utilizing her hyper-mobility. Part of the Damage Role, Freja players will be expected to dish out heavy amounts of damage and find key picks for their team while gliding across the battlefield.

Freja: Hero Abilities

Revdraw Crossbow (LMB)

Rapidly fire automatic crossbow bolts.

Take Aim (RMB)

Slow down momentum to take aim with a high-speed explosive bolt. Quick Dash refreshes Take Aim.

Quick Dash (LSHIFT)

Vault in the direction you’re moving. Take Aim is refreshed.

Updraft (E)

Launch upward with a gust of wind.

Bola Shot (Q) [ULTIMATE]

Fire an explosive bola. Hitting an enemy wraps them up and pulls in other nearby enemies.

Freja Initial Impressions

"Recognized internally as one of the highest-skilled heroes in the game, Freja's kit demands precision and a steady, long-ranged aim."

Based on initial looks, Freja’s primary weapon draws many similarities with Widowmaker. Much like the French operative, her LMB and RMB allow her to swap between different forms on her weapon, enabling seamless swapping based on the situation.

Her primary fire, Revdraw Crossbow does not do a huge amount of damage per shot, as it is meant more for suppression and overall poke. Take Aim, meanwhile, is her slow but heavy shot, dealing a lot more damage while also attaching a sticky bomb to the target (bomb explodes after a delay).

Two movement abilities allow her to reposition frequently both horizontally and vertically. Much like Tracer, she has two charges on her Quick Dash, which recharges over time. Her ultimate is a fast fire bola which wraps around a target and explodes, dealing enough damage to kill, potentially making for a quick kill on an isolated target.

When does Freja Release in Overwatch 2?

Freja is reportedly set to release in Season 16, around late April most likely. However, there will be a free-trial weekend for Freja when Season 15 launches on February 18th.

Just like the other heroes, Freja will be receiving Perks that can alter her impact during a match.
