fer returns to Counter-Strike 2, Joins Gaimin Gladiators

It is official. Fernando "fer" Alvarenga is back in competitive CS2, and he is doing it on one of the biggest stages possible: the IEM Cologne Major 2026. Gaimin Gladiators announced the signing on April 18th, confirming what the community had been buzzing about all week.

Two Majors. One Legacy.

If you follow Brazilian Counter-Strike, you already know what fer means to the scene. fer built one of the most celebrated careers in CS history.

He was a core piece of Luminosity Gaming's dominant run, winning the MLG Columbus Major in 2016.Then, as part of SK Gaming, he did it again, capturing the ESL One: Cologne 2016 Major title and cementing himself as a two-time world champion.

That golden lineup alongside FalleN, coldzera, TACO, and fnx was the best Brazil ever produced, and fer was right in the middle of it.

A Long Road Back

After his stint with MIBR ended in 2020, fer went through Imperial Esports and then O PLANO, with his last competitive appearance coming in January 2024 at the open qualifier for the PGL Major Copenhagen.

More than two years on the sidelines with no fixed team and no major stage. For a player of his caliber, that silence was painful to watch. Now, at 34 years old, he gets one more shot at the biggest tournament in CS2.

What He Walks Into

Gaimin Gladiators head into Cologne with a roster built around NEKIZ, HEN1, JOTA, and Luken, with horvy as coach.

The team earned their Major spot through strong domestic performances in South America in early 2026, and fer has reportedly already been training with the squad.

Because he was registered as a substitute rather than a starter, fer will be able to play normally but won't have a sticker at the tournament. A small detail, but one that shows just how last-minute this move was.

See You in Cologne

His expected debut with the team is set for June 2nd, the opening day of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, in a best-of-three match during Stage 1. The opponent hasn't been announced yet, but that almost doesn't matter. The real story is a Brazilian legend walking back onto a Major stage, older, hungrier, and with something to prove.

The CS2 world will be watching.
