The Rainbow Six Siege Esports World Cup has reached a thrilling juncture as the tournament moves into its playoff stage. From an initial pool of sixteen elite teams, only eight remain, each vying for the ultimate glory.
Schedule and Format
The playoffs will take place from August 2 to 4, at 5pm CEST | 8am PDT.
- It will feature an eight-team single-elimination format.
- All matches, except for the Grand Final, will be Bo3.
- The Grand Final will be a Bo5 showdown.
Opening Matchups and Storylines
Team Liquid vs DarkZero
Both Liquid and DZ have been seeing a resurgence in form. Team Liquid, multiple time Major finalists have been going through a dip in form that was unforeseen by many. But a recent playoffs appearance and 3rd-4th place finish at the BLAST Manchester Major put them back on the map, and also on the radars of many. And what better way to solidify a comeback than with a trophy of this caliber.
Even though DarkZero performed well in the regional league, their international record is quite spotty. With multiple group stage exits at international tournaments, their resurgence this season has been quite consistent. With a third place finish in the NA League, DZ also performed well at Manchester, earning themselves a 3rd-4th place. Taking full advantage of their momentum, veterans Troy "Canadian" Jaroslawski and Jason "Beaulo" Doty will definitely be looking to add another trophy to their cabinets.
Bleed Esports vs w7m esports
Winners of the Asia League, Bleed surprised fans and analysts by advancing to the playoffs. Defeating Brazilian giants FaZe Clan showcased their roster's potential. Despite less favorable international finishes this season, they aim to make a significant impact now.
On the other hand, w7m has struggled regionally since replacing their dominant SI-winning roster. Once Atlanta Major finalists, they have been brimming with potential but suffering in form. This tournament marks their first international outing as a new team, providing a prime opportunity to solidify their status as trophy contenders once again.
Team BDS vs FaZe Clan
Team BDS were easily one of the tournament favorites coming into Riyadh. The European powerhouse are currently playing in some of the best form. Coming off wins in Malta Cyber Series VII, and the European League, along with a 2nd place finish at Manchester, they are also at peak performance. Just like DZ, they will also be looking to take advantage of their momentum. But with Stéphane "Shaiiko" Lebleu made the face of the tournament, all eyes will be on BDS, and the pressure will be substantial.
Coming in as the champions of Brazil, FaZe Clan are hungry. After facing heartbreak at the Six Invitational, FaZe Clan faced another top 4 finish without a trophy in hand. But instead of being a detriment, they treat this as motivation. With Thiago "Handyy" Ferreira looking to show up his brother, FaZe Clan are always a threat.
FURIA vs Spacestation Gaming
The reigning champions of Siege, FURIA (previously the w7m roster) have seen a slight dip in form. Coming in third in the Brazil League, they also had an unfavorable exit at the Manchester Major. All the signs point towards w7m losing their form and their hunger. But teams would be making a huge mistake in underestimating the potential of the Brazilian giants.
Champions of yesteryear, SSG have been long struggling to find some footing. Being dragged through the mud throughout the season, this world cup could be the turning point for the North American side. With their solid run in the lower bracket, they will definitely be the one with more practice going into the matchup.
