ESL Shuts Down Impact League Amid Sustainability Issues

After more than three years running the league dedicated to promoting the female Counter-Strike scene, ESL has made the decision to suspend their Impact Circuit. Following the conclusion of ESL Impact League Season 8 in November, the circuit will be suspended indefinitely.

ESL Impact League Draws to a Close

The ESL Impact series kicked off all the way back in 2022, with Nigma Galaxy taking the first trophy in Katowice. Later that same year, Season 1 launched what would become years of top female Counter-Strike action.

After their initial victory, Nigma would go on to dominate the league for years to come, winning Seasons 1-4 before the team's core moved on to play under the Imperial Female banner instead. The squad would continue to control the scene until FURIA Female were finally able to seize the throne during Season 7 in May of 2025.

Little did anyone know at the time, though, that Season 7 would go on to become the penultimate iteration of the event, with ESL announcing they would shut down the Impact League after Season 8 crowns the tournament's final champions.

Impact Proved Unsustainable

Despite ESL's best efforts to promote women's Counter-Strike to create a more inclusive ecosystem for the game and its esports scene, the league could not endure. In the words of ESL themselves, "the current economic model is simply not sustainable."

For now, ESL has not announced whether they will seek to change their model in order to relaunch the league in the future, or if this will prove to be the end of the Impact Circuit for good.

With that in mind, make sure to tune in to ESL Impact League Season 8 Finals in Stockholm, starting November 28th.
