If you’re a gamer trying to switch between Valorant and Battlefield 6, you might have already hit a roadblock: EA’s Javelin anti-cheat and Riot’s Vanguard don’t play nicely together.

The problem isn’t your PC, it’s how both games protect themselves from cheaters. Some trending questions have emerged after that finding: Can I only play one of them at a time? Do I need to uninstall Valorant to be able to play Battlefield 6?

Short answer: No. But you can’t have both games’ anti-cheat systems running at the same time. Here's all you need to know about this subject.

Why the conflict happens

Both Vanguard and Javelin run at kernel level (also called Ring 0), the deepest part of your operating system. This gives them full control to monitor memory, processes, and hardware — exactly what’s needed to stop cheating tools.

The catch? Each one also thinks the other’s deep-level monitoring might be suspicious. Phillip Koskinas from Riot explains that both drivers “race to protect regions of game memory with the same technique,” and when they overlap, Battlefield 6 will throw a Security Violation error instead of launching.

What this means for players

For esports pros, streamers, and serious players, this can be a real headache:

  • You must close Valorant completely (and make sure Vanguard is shut down in your system tray) before starting Battlefield 6.
  • Sometimes, a full PC restart is needed so Javelin loads without interference.
  • No permanent uninstall is needed though... just don’t run them simultaneously.

Why Developers won’t back down

Both companies see cheat prevention as a higher priority than cross-game compatibility. Vanguard has banned millions of accounts, while Javelin blocked hundreds of thousands during BF6’s beta alone. In the competitive scene, that level of protection is crucial — even if it means some inconvenience.

The bigger picture

Kernel-level anti-cheat systems are becoming standard in the industry, with upcoming titles like Call of Duty also adopting similar tech. This makes conflicts between games more likely... and for now, there’s no universal fix. Good thing is that you don't need to uninstall Valorant to play Battlefield 6.

Bottom line, keep both games installed, but be ready to shut one down completely before playing the other. Until something changes, competitive gamers will need to work around the tech that’s protecting their favorite titles.
