D.Mon’s Overwatch Debut Week Sees Second Hotfix Buff
D.Mon has had a turbulent week since her Overwatch debut on August 11. Just days after joining as the game's 53rd hero, the MEKA Squad leader has already received her second hotfix buff.
Upon release, D.Mon was met with excitement from players eager to try the new brawl Tank. However, early data and community feedback suggested she was underperforming, with some even labeling her the “weakest hero at release.”
Her survivability and damage output fell short of expectations, prompting Blizzard to step in quickly.
First D.Mon Hotfix Arrives 24 Hours After Launch
The first hotfix arrived roughly 24 hours after her launch in Season 4, addressing a few core issues. It included a small boost to her damage output and a modest improvement to her dash mechanics. Here are the specifics:
|
Ability |
Change |
|
Plasma Saber |
Damage increased from 60 to 65. |
|
Propulsors |
Fuel drain rate reduced from 40 to 25. |
|
Fuel regen rate increased from 15 to 22.5.
|
Fusion Repeater |
Damage increased from 15 to 16. |
|
Cooldown reduced from 6 to 4 seconds. |
As a brawl Tank with a playstyle similar to Reinhardt, D.Mon needs to deal a solid amount of damage to make an impact. However, with just 60 HP per strike of her Plasma Saber, her DPS falls well below Reinhardt's 100 HP per swing of his Rocket Hammer.
This likely prompted the primary fire damage buff. While a 5 HP increase still doesn't bring her anywhere close to Reinhardt's damage, it's a fair improvement given the flexibility the rest of D.Mon's kit offers — for instance, her Fusion Repeater, which allows for long‑range damage.
Though the 5 HP buff is promising, several players online have called for further improvements. However, instead of focusing solely on primary fire, Blizzard appears to have taken a more balanced approach, spreading changes across her entire kit.
We saw a small improvement to the Fusion Repeater's damage and cooldown, making it a more reliable tool for long‑range pressure. Her Propulsors also received a substantial boost, increasing their duration from 2.5 seconds to 4 seconds, with regeneration speed improved by 50% as well.
While the changes helped, they didn't fully close the gap, prompting Blizzard to release a second hotfix just a couple of days later.
Second Hotfix Improves D.Mon’s Ability Timings
The second hotfix went live earlier today, August 14, further buffing D.Mon's kit. The patch significantly reduces the cast and recovery timings of her Surging Strike and Fusion Repeater, along with a small adjustment to her hitbox.
|
Ability |
Change |
|
General (Hitbox) |
Adjusted the height of the mech head hitbox to be more flush with the model. |
|
Surging Strike |
Cast Time reduced from 0.15 to 0.05 seconds. |
|
Recovery reduced from 0.25 to 0.15 seconds.
|
Fusion Repeater |
Cast Time reduced from 0.3 to 0.2 seconds. |
|
Recovery Time reduced from 0.5 to 0.2 seconds. |
The cast time improvement for Surging Strike makes it nearly instant. Given that the ability is tied to a 105 HP self‑heal (with the Overstrike perk) in addition to damage and knockback, it also boosts D.Mon's survivability.
Fusion Repeater received similar attention. The first hotfix had already improved its damage and cooldown. The timing adjustments now make it an even more reliable tool, especially with the Focused Fusion perk, and increase D.Mon's effectiveness in long‑range fights, despite being a melee‑oriented hero.
Taken together, the two hotfixes represent a substantial number of changes to D.Mon since her launch. While the first update focused more on damage and maneuverability, the second addressed her ability uptime and responsiveness.
The collective impact is expected to become evident in‑game soon. However, given player feedback so far, another hotfix in the near future wouldn't be surprising.
