In Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the UNSA, SATO, and SCAR teams actively operate the Jackal—a highly advanced aerospace fighter jet. India’s space program, in collaboration with the multinational Solar Associated Treaty Organization (SATO), originally developed the Jackal. Manufacturing takes place in factories located on Ganymede, which the United Arab Emirates owns. Over time, SATO adopted the Jackal as its primary air and space interdiction fighter.

Design & Capabilities

Physical Specs

The Jackal measures 19 meters in length with a wingspan of 13 meters and a height of 4 meters. These dimensions make it compact enough for agile maneuvers while maintaining the firepower and utility needed for a multi-role combat aerospacecraft.

Performance

The Jackal reaches 5,200 km/h in atmosphere and 80,000 km/h with boosters for space travel. It supports VTOL, atmospheric, and space flight modes for full operational flexibility. To escape large planets, it must dock with a capital ship.

Survivability

The Jackal is engineered for extreme survivability in diverse environments. It can withstand atmospheric pressures of up to 98 atmospheres, comparable to the surface of Venus, and can endure gravitational forces up to 4.5 times that of Earth, making it effective even under Jupiter’s conditions. It is also highly thermally resilient, with an operational temperature range spanning from 427°C down to -244°C—suitable for deployment from Mercury to Pluto.

Occupancy

The fighter jet has a tandem-seat cockpit designed for a maximum of two crew members, consisting of a pilot and a co-pilot. This layout allows for coordinated combat engagement and system management.

Propulsion & Maneuverability

The Jackal is outfitted with eight rocket boosters and three VTOL intakes, giving it incredible versatility during take-off, combat maneuvers, and spaceflight. It also features 92 Reaction Control System (RCS) ports that allow it to strafe in any direction during space combat, capitalizing on the zero-resistance environment of a vacuum. Additionally, it is equipped with an autopilot system for extended or automated flight sequences.

Defensive Systems

For defense, the Jackal comes with both flare countermeasures to thwart heat-seeking missiles and omnidirectional infrared countermeasures that enhance its survivability against guided threats from multiple directions.

Weaponry

Primary Armaments

  • 2x 30mm Gren Cannons – Balanced A2A (Air-to-Air) weapon.
  • 2x 50mm Pathfinder Cannons – Standard heavy cannons.
  • 8x AGM Missiles – Air-to-ground targeting.

Alternate Cannons

  • 20mm Dragonfly – High fire rate, watch for overheating.
  • D-8 Cleaver – High RoF, less powerful but less stressful on systems.
  • GAMP .018 Microlite – Stolen energy weapon from the SDF.
  • GAMP .385 Anvil – Most powerful energy cannon available.

Fire Control System

  • Modular Articulating Ballistic System with Retinal Tracking Pivots (cannons aim based on pilot's line of sight).

Variants & Upgrades

Upgrades

Various performance upgrades can be applied to the Jackal. A weapon upgrade increases damage output, enhances missile capacity, and reduces the likelihood of overheating. A hull upgrade bolsters overall health and reduces damage from collisions. Lastly, a thruster upgrade extends boost duration and improves both turn speed and acceleration, making the fighter even more responsive in combat.

Early Design

An early model of the Jackal can be found in the Gateway museum on Luna. This prototype featured forward-swept wings, a slimmer frame, and a side-by-side cockpit configuration. The engines were also larger, and RCS nozzles were visible on the cockpit’s front sides—highlighting some of the foundational design changes leading up to the final model.

Role in Campaign

Captain Nick Reyes, the protagonist of Infinite Warfare, pilots his own personalized Jackal during his time commanding the Retribution. He uses the Jackal in numerous space and planetary missions against the Settlement Defense Front, showcasing its importance as a frontline combat vehicle.

Achievements / Trophies

Players can unlock several achievements tied to the Jackal. When you earn your first Jackal-related item—such as a weapon or an upgrade—you unlock the "Fangs Out" trophy. If you collect all available Jackal weapons and upgrades, you receive the "Jackal Ace" trophy. To earn the "Top Gun" trophy, you must complete all Jackal-only side missions.

Call of Duty: Mobile Appearance

The Jackal made its mobile debut in Call of Duty: Mobile during the "Season 6: To The Skies" update in June 2022. In this version, the Jackal functions as a dual-purpose aircraft combining both attack and scouting capabilities, designed primarily to secure and maintain air dominance on the battlefield.

Trivia

The Jackal’s aesthetic and functional design in Call of Duty draws heavy inspiration from real-world jet fighters such as the F-22 Raptor, the YF-23, and the F-14 Tomcat. While it is technologically superior to its primary rival, the Skelter, the Jackal’s production numbers became limited after the surprise attack on Geneva by the Front, which significantly damaged SATO’s aerospace assets.
