Buenos Aires and Shanghai to Reportedly Host CS2 Majors in 2027

Buenos Aires and Shanghai to Reportedly Host CS2 Majors in 2027

Counter-Strike 2 is set to take its Majors to Argentina for the very first time, with the capital city Buenos Aires as the host, as per HLTV. Further reports state that the second Major will be held in China, with Shanghai hosting the grand event for the second time.

Traditionally a Europe-focused spectacle, the reported relocation of the biannual tournament to Argentina has caught the community off guard. Earlier today, an article from Escorenews suggested that the venue and organizer of the first Major "will surprise everyone,”  but may not be “received positively," with the time zone causing the negative perception.

With new reports lending credibility to these leaks, it appears CS2 is steering its premier events in a new direction.

FiReSPORTS will host the Buenos Aires Major

According to HLTV, Argentine organization FiReSPORTS will be the event operators for the Buenos Aires Major. The information has reportedly been confirmed by the tournament organizer’s Founder and CEO, Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, who stated:

"We're very excited to host the first Major in the history of our country. Fans will be delighted to come to a city like Buenos Aires, a city that blends European and Latin American influences, where they will be surprised by the passion of Counter-Strike fans in Argentina. We are going to give it our all to make this a great Major."

Argentina will be the fourteenth country to host a Counter-Strike Major, and the second in South America, following Brazil, which hosted IEM Rio 2022. A look at the hosting distribution for all 25 CS Majors (including the two upcoming ones) reveals stark regional dominance: Europe leads with 18 events, far ahead of North America (4), Asia (2), and South America (1).

CS2 Major Returns to China in 2027

Counter-Strike 2’s publisher in China, Perfect World, is reportedly set to host the tournament again, following the success of the 2024 Shanghai Major. While the organizer has yet to comment, this information comes from multiple credible sources.

Team Spirit Lifted their first Major Trophy in Shanghai 2024

The upcoming CS2 Majors scheduled for Singapore (PGL Major 2026) and Buenos Aires have ignited hope among the international community that Valve is shifting away from its Europe-focused approach. This strategic pivot seeks to engage a broader, more global viewer base, taking Counter-Strike to new heights.

The 2027 Buenos Aires Major will reportedly be held from May 31 to June 20, while the Shanghai Major 2026 is set to take place from November 22 to December 12.

How the XSE Pro League 2026 Became CS2's Biggest Disaster

Nobody expected the 2026 XSE Pro League to become the disaster it is right now, and that stings even more given the $1,000,000 prize pool attached to it. What was pitched as a big new stop on the Counter-Strike 2 calendar has instead spiraled into so much dysfunction that the community built an entire compilation thread just to keep up with it all.
