If you tuned into Tarik’s Sentinels watch party on Sunday, April 20th, you were in for a surprise. In a wild crossover no one saw coming, Batman himself — well, one of the Batmans, and arguably the best — made an appearance. None other than Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck joined Sentinels' watch party to catch their game against 2G Esports.

While the cameo felt like a surprise, it was actually part of the promotional tour for Affleck’s upcoming movie The Accountant 2, which also stars The Punisher's Jon Bernthal.

How Did the Batman x Sentinels Crossover Happen?

As mentioned, Affleck’s appearance on the stream was tied to his Accountant 2 promo tour. With Sentinels being one of the biggest orgs in VALORANT, and Tarik essentially the face of the scene, the stream was the perfect platform to boost visibility.

Also worth noting: Sentinels CEO Rob Moore is a former Hollywood executive, which likely helped bridge the gap between Tinseltown and the tactical FPS world.

Ben Affleck’s VALORANT Infatuation

Longtime VALORANT fans probably weren’t too shocked by Affleck’s appearance. The actor was spotted at VALORANT Champions 2023 in Los Angeles alongside his son watching Evil Geniuses take the crown at the KIA Forum.

On Tarik’s stream, Affleck spoke fondly of that experience, calling it "amazing", and expressed genuine love for the game.

There was also a fun segment with his son where the two dove into VALORANT banter. During the banter, Affleck talked about all things VALORANT. A few of the points included playing the game and reaching Iron 3 as a Brimstone main.

He also talked about the community’s ostracization of Odin mains and how if it is in the game, then using it for competitive advantage is a viable strategy. Lastly, Affleck also talked about skins, and how the biggest “hijack” is paying for skins in a free to play game. He also admited to splurging on skins himself.

Affleck enjoying a tactical FPS isn’t all that surprising either. As someone who’s big on poker, a game that’s all about mental warfare, it makes sense he’d gravitate toward something as strategic as VALORANT.

And Affleck isn’t alone. More and more celebrities are jumping into VALORANT, from Simu Liu to sports stars, proving just how big the game has become.

Neo provided a ton of insight into the organization's participation at this year's edition of EWC in Paris. He expressed his desire for the org to perform to the highest standards, but also highlighted that rivalry is key to grow the ecosystem. Additionally, Neo gave strong opinions on the growth of mobile esports following last year's Vitality's takeover and merger with Indonesian side Bigetron, stressing the need for innovation and following ideas in the east, as much as the west.
