Aurora Gaming are the FISSURE Universe Episode 8 Champions

After a lot of effort and teamwork, Aurora Gaming were crowned the FISSURE Universe Episode 8 Champions. Aurora flipped the game against their enemies multiple times during the tournament.

Let's take a look at how the grand finalists got to the best-of-5, which strong teams they overcame and how this tournament might affect their performance at the BLAST Slam VI.

Aurora Gaming are the FISSURE Universe Episode 8 Champions

Aurora Gaming: Turning Tables

The first team to reach the Grand Finals was Aurora Gaming. Their journey started with a table flip against BetBoom Team. They started by losing the match 0-1 but ended up moving forward with a 2-1 victory.

Next in line was Team Yandex, which lost 2-0. Aurora Gaming had longer matches against Yandex, but they were already showing signs of dominance.

Team Spirit was the favorite but Aurora gave them a hard time on the Upper Bracket Finals.

The Upper Bracket Finals were their last test, and Aurora passed with flying colors after beating Team Spirit, also by 2-0. Spirit was the strongest team to make it to the playoffs and the favorites to win at that point.

Team Spirit: Close But Not Quite Back

Team Spirit made a run mostly through the Upper Bracket, as we can tell by their match against Aurora. Their run started with a 2-0 victory against the StrongBoys, who had a miraculous run through the Play-In.

After that, Team Spirit added another dent to Team Liquid's armor by defeating them 2-1 in the semifinals. Team Liquid has been struggling to find balance and still has not found it, even in smaller events like this one.

Aurora Gaming has won the tournament but Team Spirit is still a fan favorite.

Finally, after losing the Upper Bracket Finals to Aurora, Team Spirit faced Team Yandex in the Lower Bracket. Their first map was a breeze, but Yandex made it a lot harder to secure the 2-0 score that placed them into the Grand Final.

Aurora Gaming: Champions at Last

After winning their first match in the Upper Bracket Finals, Aurora faced Team Spirit again in the Grand Final. The match started with Aurora winning 1-0, but Team Spirit turned the tables and led 2-1 by the end of the third map.

As the table-turning masters they have become, Aurora won the Grand Final 3-2 and are the newly crowned FISSURE Universe Champions. Aurora took $125,000 from the total prize pool for first place.

Team Spirit didn’t win but still took a sizeable $60,000 for second place. Finally, Team Yandex closed out the top three by taking $30,000 for third place.

Closing Thoughts

Despite not winning the FISSURE Universe Episode 8, Team Spirit has recently moved their coach to the inactive roster and might still be adjusting to a new dynamic.

At the same time, it’s important for them to save their energy for the BLAST Slam VI, which has a bigger prize pool, an easier path to the playoffs, and stronger teams to face on the way to the top.

Since Aurora Gaming were not in the lineup for the BLAST Slam, they could go all in knowing they would have plenty of time to rest afterward, and their effort paid off in the end.
