Create overtop geysers to get Vespene gas. Near your mineral patches and town hall is a geyser emitting green fumes. Known as a Vespene geyser, and you can construct a building on top of it to harvest Vespene gas, and use it to pay for particular buildings, units, and upgrades. Every faction utilizes a specific building to harvest gas. 

You will then need to createa building that can train combat units and add to your supply so you can build more units.

Allocate workers to harvest gas. After you've successfully built your Refinery, Assimilator, or Extractor, you should assemble four or five workers, choose them by left-clicking, and then right-click the Refinery, Assimilator or Extractor. They will start harvesting gas until the geyser is depleted.

Assemble a building that can train combat units.Every faction begins the game with a building that allows you to train combat units. To facilitate training for other kinds of combat units, build different types of buildings.

Boost your supply to construct more units.Supply can be thought of as food: armies require food to function. Monitor your supply, displayed in the upper-right corner of the screen next to your supply of Vespene gas and minerals.

StarCraft II is an extremely competitive game, so are its counterparts in the universe of RTS, and for obvious reasons. In most cases, this is a one-versus-one game; there's noone to assist the player if they fail, meaning you would only have yourself to blame for winning or losing. The game is highly complex, with units, upgrades, soldiers, and workers all requiring simultaneous management.
