After weeks of teasing, Riot Games has finally unveiled Waylay, VALORANT’s newest agent and the latest addition to its duelist lineup.

The reveal took place during the grand finals of VCT Masters: Bangkok, where players got their first look at Thailand’s radiant speedster. With the ability to transform into pure light, Waylay brings a unique playstyle to the game, combining rapid mobility with a devastating hindering effect that slows down enemies in multiple ways.

Let’s take a deep dive into Waylay’s abilities, playstyle, and impact on the meta.

Waylay’s Abilities: Speed and Control in One Package

Waylay is designed to be a "space-taking" duelist, excelling at aggressive site entries while still having tools to retreat safely. Here’s a breakdown of her abilities:

Refract

Instantly create a beacon of light on the floor. Reactivate to speed back to your beacon as a mote of pure light. You are invulnerable as you travel.

  • Functions as a safety net, allowing Waylay to reposition quickly.
  • Ideal for aggressive plays where she dashes in but needs an escape route.

Light Speed

Equip to prepare for a burst of speed. Fire to dash forward twice. Alt Fire to dash once. Only your first dash can send you upward.

  • A blend of Jett’s dash and Raze’s satchels, but with more control.
  • First dash allows vertical movement, creating creative angles for engagements.

Saturate

Instantly throw a cluster of light that explodes upon contact with the ground, hindering nearby players with a powerful movement and weapon slow.

  • A key zoning ability that disrupts enemy movement and gunplay.
  • Slows fire rate, recoil recovery, and reload speed, making enemies easier to pick off.

Convergent Paths (Ultimate)

Equip to focus your prismatic power. Fire to create an afterimage of yourself that projects a beam of light. After a brief delay, you gain a powerful speed boost and the beam expands, hindering other players in the area.

  • Grants Waylay superior speed for aggressive plays.
  • The beam hinders enemies, making them slower in both movement and gunplay.

New Debuff: Hindering

A major part of Waylay’s kit is the introduction of the Hindering debuff, which slows down:

  • Fire Rate
  • Recoil Recovery
  • Equip Time
  • Reload Speed
  • Movement Speed
  • Jump Speed

This makes Waylay a control-heavy duelist, capable of slowing fights down in her favor before capitalizing on her speed to secure kills.

Check out how Waylay's abilities work in the video below:

Waylay’s Agent Gear

Like every new agent, Waylay comes with her own Agent Gear progression track, including sprays, a player card, and a unique weapon skin.

  • Tier 1 – Spray: FTL
  • Tier 2 – Player Card: VALORANT Waylay
  • Tier 3 – Title: Prismatic
  • Tier 4 – Spray: Infinite Reflections
  • Tier 5 – Kingdom Credits: 2000
  • Tier 6 – Gun Buddy: Prism
  • Tier 7 – Spray: Waylay Spray
  • Tier 8 – Title: Iridescent
  • Tier 9 – Player Card: Dawnstrike
  • Tier 10 – Sidearm Skin: Kaleidoscope (Frenzy)

Waylay’s Release Date & New Content in 2025 Act II

Waylay will be available on March 6, coinciding with the launch of Season 2025 Act II. Alongside her arrival, Riot Games is introducing new content, including:

New Skin Collection: Cyrax

A sci-fi inspired set featuring starforged crystals on the Vandal, Ghost, Guardian, Stinger, and the Fanblade melee weapon.

New Battlepass Highlights

  • Tactibear Flex
  • Byteshift Ghost
  • Sloth Tactics Buddy
  • Doom Wing Phantom
  • Heartless Card

Act II begins on March 5, with the Cyrax collection launching on March 6.

Waylay’s Playstyle: A Flexible Entry Fragger

According to June Cuervo, Game Designer at Riot Games, Waylay was designed to fill the "space-taking" duelist role, a category previously dominated by Jett and Raze.

"When designing Waylay’s dash, I wanted to capture the creativity of Raze’s satchel movement and the speed of Jett’s dash. Waylay’s tool for creating safety for herself, Refract, allows her to take risks and play off of her teammates' utility with confidence after dashing."

How Does Waylay Fit into the Meta?

  • On Maps Like Icebox & Ascent
    • Strong due to multiple dash angles and safe repositioning.
    • Good for aggressive site executes.
  • On Maps Like Lotus & Split
    • Viable in double-duelist compositions with Raze.
    • Strong in coordinated site hits.
  • On Maps Like Breeze & Abyss
    • Struggles due to large open spaces and lack of cover.
    • Jett remains a better pick for these maps.

Best Playstyle for Waylay

  • Aggressive entry fragger, combining mobility with hindering effects to secure kills.
  • Works best when paired with initiator utility (e.g., Sova’s dart or Omen’s paranoia).
  • Can escape risky fights with Refract, making her less of a one-and-done duelist.

Final Thoughts

Waylay is poised to shake up VALORANT’s duelist meta, but she isn’t a Jett or Raze replacement—she’s an alternative. Her speed, prismatic light-based abilities, and hindering debuff make her a unique and flexible pick for teams looking to disrupt enemy movements while keeping up an aggressive pace.

With Season 2025 Act II dropping on March 5, players won’t have to wait long to see how Waylay performs in ranked, pro play, and beyond.
