Vendetta: All You Need To Know About Overwatch's 45th Hero
Overwatch fans are getting ready to meet the newest Hero in the game: Vendetta. Also known as "La Lupa", this Italian arena fighter has a rich story behind her and we are sure you'll enjoy everything she is bringing alongside her, especially the huge sword she'll constantly use to slash her enemies.
Without further ado, here is everything you need to know about Overwatch's Hero 45.
Who Is Vendetta?
Vendetta's story isn't your typical video game hero origin. Her father, Antonio Bartalotti, was a big name in Talon's operations back in the day. But everything changed when Blackwatch (Gabriel Reyes and the crew) executed him during a mission that went sideways in Venice. That was the Retribution operation, and it basically tore apart everything her family had built.
After losing her inheritance and getting shut out from power, she disappeared into the underground gladiatorial scene at Rome's Colosseo arena. She clawed her way up through brutal fights, using every victory as another step toward reclaiming what she lost. Now she operates under the codename La Lupa... literally "The Wolf" in Italian. She's got some serious unfinished business with people like Reaper and the others who were there when her father died.
What Role Does She Play?
Blizzard officially confirmed that Vendetta's a damage hero, breaking the mold as the first fully melee-focused DPS in the game. That means she'll be the twentieth damage character on the roster. Some players were hoping for a tank, but nope... Vendetta's all about aggressive, close-combat pressure.
Vendetta's Kit Explained
Vendetta's entire arsenal revolves around her massive hard-light sword. Here's what we can expect based on the cinematic trailer:
- Primary Weapon: The sword serves as main damage source, with slashes doing damage up close. But she will not be limited to brawling as she can fire energy waves from sword slashes, similar to how Reinhardt throws out Fire Strikes. The black and white energy surrounding her attacks appears to build up as she chains hits together, increasing her damage output the more aggressive she gets.
- Block/Defense Ability: She can hold her sword defensively to block incoming fire, like Doomfist blocks. The more damage she absorbs while blocking, the more she can charge into her sword-based attacks.
- Leap Attack: The trailer shows her jumping high into the air before delivering a devastating downward slash, reminiscent of Sonya's abilities in Diablo. She seems to have thrusters on her back to help her reach all that height.
- Sword Throw & Retrieval: One of her most eye-catching moves involves throwing her sword like a projectile at distant targets, then dashing or teleporting to retrieve it. This gives her a way to stay relevant at range and close gaps fast.
- Ultimate: Her ultimate ability seems to be a gigantic slash that creates an energy wave in a straight line, likely eliminating anything in its path. The exact mechanics aren't confirmed yet, but it looks devastating as hell.
When Will Vendetta Be Available?
Vendetta drops as a limited-time hero trial from November 26 to December 1, 2025. This week-long trial is Blizzard's way of letting players test her before the official release when Season 20 launches on December 9.
Ready to Test Overwatch's Hero 45?
Beyond just being mechanically fresh, Vendetta ties directly into Overwatch's lore. The Retribution mission that killed her father remains one of the most pivotal moments in the game's story: it exposed Blackwatch, damaged Overwatch's reputation beyond repair, and set Gabriel Reyes on the path to becoming Reaper. Now she's here, and the potential interactions between her and those Blackwatch operatives are going to be intense.
Her melee-focused DPS design also fills a genuine gap. While other close-range heroes exist, none are purely sword-based damage dealers the way Vendetta is. If balanced right, she could shake up the meta for supports and backline DPS who've gotten comfortable at range.
