The decision by MIBR to allow Cortezia, Xenom, and Artzin to negotiate with other teams after a highly promising Champions 2025 campaign surprised the VALORANT community. While it may look contradictory following the organization’s best result in the game, the move shows a clear ambition: securing aspas for 2026 and building a high-level international project around Verno. It seems this is the only way the Brazilian organization can realistically keep both stars, who are likely targets for almost every top VALORANT team worldwide.

Consolidating the Aspas-Verno Core

The release of the trio comes just as MIBR awaits aspas’ contract decision, set to expire at the end of 2025. Given his record-breaking performances at Champions 2025, keeping him is essential for any international ambition.

Aspas ended the tournament with monster stats: 1.23 rating, 251.6 ACS, and 77% KAST, confirming his place as one of the best duelists (and players) in the world. His showings against Team Heretics and NRG proved once again why he remains the centerpiece of elite projects.

Verno’s Breakthrough as IGL

The decision to shift Verno0 into the IGL role turned out to be one of MIBR’s smartest calls this season. After stepping up in July to replace artzin as shotcaller, the 19-year-old American displayed rare maturity for his age. His iconic showing versus Bilibili Gaming at Champions, where he set a record KDA in international events, highlighted both mechanical skill and tactical command.

Throughout playoffs, Verno’s leadership only grew stronger, with pundits praising his ability to adapt mid-round. Pairing aspas with a young, communicative, and fast-developing IGL creates a unique combination with massive upside for years to come.

A Historic Run Validates the Core

The 5th–6th place finish at Champions 2025 marks the best result ever for MIBR in VALORANT. Considering they had never even reached an international event before 2025, their campaign in Paris proved the strength of the lineup’s foundation.

The Risks of a Radical Overhaul

The main criticism of this decision is the loss of proven chemistry. Cortezia, Xenom, and Artzin were central pieces of MIBR’s deepest run. Cortezia shined in the playoffs, while artzin was instrumental in the win against Team Heretics, even if he struggled versus NRG.

The synergy built across 2025, especially after Verno took over IGL duties, risks being dismantled. Teams like Fnatic and Paper Rex have shown that continuity, even after bumpy starts, often translates into long-term success.

Contractual and Financial Obstacles

Contracts add extra complexity. Artzin will be a free agent, but Cortezia and Xenom are still tied to MIBR until 2026, meaning formal buyouts will be required. This may limit options for transfers but also give MIBR a chance to cash in on valuable assets.

There’s also aspas’ personal track record to consider: he previously left both LOUD and Leviatán shortly after achieving 3rd place at Champions. If that pattern continues, MIBR may be reshaping its roster around a player not known for long-term commitments.

Pressure for 2026 Results

All of this amplifies the pressure on aspas and Verno. With three teammates sacrificed specifically to retain them, any underperformance in 2026 will be judged harshly. The added expectations could hinder the natural growth of the squad, especially as Verno is still only in his second professional year.

What About fRoD?

One major name remains uncertain: Danny "fRoD" Montaner. The 39-year-old coach also has a contract set to expire at the end of 2025. In an interview with THESPIKE Brasil before Champions, he openly admitted that his future hinged on results.

"If I keep doing a bad job on the international stage, that spotlight comes directly to me. Expectations always stay tied to your last performance," he explained, making it clear that his renewal depended on Paris.

fRoD’s Impact on MIBR

fRoD was instrumental in developing Verno as an IGL and in orchestrating MIBR’s best VALORANT campaign ever. His world championship experience with LOUD in 2022 and deep international knowledge became the backbone of this project.

Throughout 2025, he showed adaptability by reshaping tactics after handing igl duties from artzin to Verno. His preseason promise of pushing MIBR into the world’s top 5 was delivered, validating his vision and preparation.

Looking Ahead to 2026

If fRoD departs, MIBR will face a tough challenge: finding a coach capable of nurturing Verno as an IGL while maximizing aspas’ output. His ability to groom young talents is hard to match in today’s market.

On the other hand, renewing him would guarantee crucial continuity. His proven ability to lead international rosters, back from his tenure at T1, makes him an invaluable asset ahead of 2026.

A Calculated Gamble

The MIBR strategy may be risky, but it is grounded in logic. Verno has emerged as one of the brightest IGLs in the Americas, with consistent growth throughout 2025. His natural jump from secondary caller to main leader reflects unusually advanced tactical maturity.

The aspas-Verno duo offers unique upside for 2026: a world-class duelist paired with a young, rising IGL. Verno’s record-breaking Champions performance while leading tactically makes him an exceptionally complete player.

Letting go of Cortezia, Xenom, and Artzin, though painful, could be the necessary price to build a truly international project. With aspas and Verno as its spine, MIBR can seek complementary reinforcements to craft what might be the most balanced roster in their VALORANT history.

The fate of fRoD remains a key variable. His continuity would preserve the methodology that led MIBR to its best-ever finish, but unresolved contract talks complicate the equation heading into 2026.

The bet may or may not pay off, but one thing is clear: MIBR is prioritizing technical quality and long-term vision over comfort and sentimentality.
