Riot Games just announced a brand new game mode at the VALORANT Masters Santiago. Knockout will be hitting VALORANT on March 18, 2026. It's dropping on the exact same day as the new Agent, Miks, and the launch of Season 2026 // Act 2. Pitched as a tactical, team-focused evolution of Team Deathmatch (TDM), Knockout is built for players craving fast-paced, intense matches packed with coordinated plays.

So, what exactly is Knockout?

Knockout is a round-based elimination mode with a massive twist: getting kills revives your fallen teammates. This means no round is truly over until the very last second, a quick multikill can completely flip a massive numbers disadvantage on its head. Matches wrap up in about 8 to 15 minutes, making it the perfect mode if you want to just squeeze in a quick session or are looking to practice some tactical executes without committing to a full-length game.

The biggest structural change compared to other modes is the center wall. It acts as a dividing line separating both teams' territories and sets the tone for the entire match dynamic. Pushing through this wall solo is basically a death sentence. This mode practically forces you to move and scale together as a unit.

How it actually plays out

Every round of Knockout follows a pretty clear flow:

  • Pre-Round Phase: Teams spawn on opposite sides with the barriers up. You get a short window to buy your loadout and figure out your game plan before the chaos starts.
  • Pushing the Wall: Once the barriers drop, both squads rush toward the center line. Coordination is everything here: you'll need abilities like smokes and flashes to clear out tricky angles and cover your teammates.
  • The Kill and Revive Cycle: Every enemy you drop brings one of your dead teammates back to life. The pace of the round is constantly shifting because of this cycle, keeping things incredibly fluid and unpredictable.
  • Territory Control: Grabbing orbs pushes the wall deeper into enemy territory. This expands your map control while squeezing the opponent out, giving your squad a growing positional advantage.
  • Round Resolution: The round ends when an entire team gets wiped out, or through an overtime mechanic if the clock runs down. The first team to win 4 rounds takes the whole match.

Who is Knockout actually for?

This mode was designed with a bunch of different playstyles in mind. Newer players get thrown right into the fire with non-stop trading scenarios and team coordination, leaving almost zero downtime between fights. Veterans get a solid sandbox to test out tactical executes. And if you're just looking to queue up with friends but don't have much time, Knockout offers quick, fun matches where teamwork shines without the stress of setting up post-plants. But honestly, the biggest thing about this mode are the clutch moments.

Picture this: you're stuck in a 1v5 situation, you manage to find two quick kills, and suddenly you watch your teammates spawn right back in. What looked like a lost round turns into a completely even fight, proving the game can flip on its head at any given second. Knockout goes live on March 18, 2026. Gear up, because you're going to be sweating out every single round until the very last second.
