The world's biggest esports event just found a new home. The Esports World Cup 2026 is officially moving to Paris, France, marking the first time in the tournament's history that it will be hosted outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The announcement came directly from the Esports Foundation (EF) on May 20, 2026, and it's a landmark moment. Not just for the players and clubs already locked in, but for the entire global esports community.

A Historic First Step Outside Saudi Arabia

For the past few editions, Riyadh has been the undisputed home of EWC. And that relationship hasn't disappeared.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, was clear about it:

"Riyadh helped turn the Esports World Cup into a global phenomenon. Riyadh is the home of EWC and one of the world's leading hubs for esports."

But this year, that global ambition is being put into action. Following an extended evaluation process and in light of the current regional situation, the Esports Foundation accelerated its long-term international rotation vision for the 2026 edition. The goal was to offer stability and clarity for players, clubs, publishers, partners, and fans while keeping the tournament's competitive integrity fully intact. The decision landed on Paris, and it's hard to argue with that choice.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Reichert to Paris to officially mark the announcement. That level of institutional backing signals that France is rolling out the red carpet for competitive gaming in a way few cities have before.

Record-Breaking by Every Measure

The scale of EWC 2026 hasn't shrunk one bit. The Paris edition will bring together more than 2,000 players and 200 Clubs from over 100 countries, competing across 24 games and 25 tournaments from July 6 through August 23. The prize pool sits at a record-breaking $75 million, the largest in the tournament's history.

To put the appetite for this event in perspective: in 2025, the Esports World Cup reached more than 750 million viewers worldwide and generated over 350 million hours watched, with peak concurrent viewership nearing 8 million. It was delivered across 28 platforms, through 97 broadcast partners and over 800 channels in 35 languages, reaching fans in 140 countries. Paris is inheriting a machine that is already running at full speed.

A City Built for Big Moments

Paris isn't new to hosting massive sporting events. The city has a long history of staging some of the most iconic competitions the world has ever seen, and competitive gaming fits right into that tradition. The French esports scene has grown significantly over the past decade, with passionate fan communities across titles like League of Legends, VALORANT, CS2, and more.

An Esports Foundation spokesperson explained what made Paris stand out from the rest:

"The Esports World Cup was created with a long-term vision to become a global platform for esports, bringing the event to major cities around the world over time. Paris emerged as the strongest host city due to its international accessibility, major-event infrastructure, operational readiness and passionate esports community. The decision ensures EWC 2026 can continue its momentum at full global scale while delivering the world-class experience expected by the esports community worldwide."

Reichert echoed that sentiment, highlighting the city's reputation and local support as key factors: "Paris has hosted some of the world's biggest sporting events and is one of the great global capitals of sport, culture and entertainment. Together with the passion of French fans and the strong support we've received locally, we're excited to bring the global esports community there for the next chapter of EWC."

The Road to Paris Starts Now

Specific venue details for the Paris edition will be announced in the coming weeks. Clubs, teams, players, and fans who already have tickets will be contacted directly with updated information.

The EWC 2026 website will serve as the main hub for FAQs and logistics as the event draws closer.

Paris 2026 is the opening of a new era, one where the world's biggest esports event truly lives up to its global name.
