Wade Jackson is one of the four main playable characters in Call of Duty: Vanguard and later appears as an Operator in Call of Duty: Mobile. Known for his daring flying skills and strong personality, Jackson stands out as one of the most memorable figures in the franchise. His story covers key moments in the Pacific theater of World War II, showcasing both his strengths and his flaws.

Early Life

Wade Jackson was born in Brooklyn, New York, as a first-generation Italian-American. From a young age, he showed a love for speed and risk. At sixteen, he joined an afterschool repair club, where he and his friends took cars out for joyrides. Jackson became known for his ability to handle the sharp curves of the Interboro Parkway at high speeds.

This passion for speed carried him into aviation. After high school, he entered the Navy’s enlisted aviation cadet program. There, he earned his pilot wings as a dive bomber pilot, beginning a career that would take him into some of the toughest battles of the war.

Personality and Traits

Jackson is confident, charismatic, and sometimes reckless. He prefers to work alone but accepts teammates if they prove capable. He sees himself as special and often looks for opportunities to prove he is the best. While this ego sometimes creates friction, it also makes him bold in moments when others hesitate.

Battle of Midway

Jackson first gained recognition during the Battle of Midway. He flew his S-17 bomber with Mateo Hernandez as his tail gunner. Together, they defended the American fleet against Japanese Zeroes.

Their squadron destroyed enemy aircraft and successfully sank a Japanese carrier. Despite heavy losses and limited aircraft, Jackson and Hernandez volunteered for another run, sinking a second carrier. This bold action helped secure an important victory.

Seventeen months later, Jackson and Hernandez were shot down over Bougainville. Jackson survived with injuries and relied on Mateo for support. The two were captured by Japanese forces but soon rescued by the 93rd Infantry Division, an all-African American unit under James “Booker” Washington.

Jackson fought alongside the 93rd, eliminating snipers and destroying Japanese defenses. At one point, he used a flamethrower to burn enemy positions and clear pillboxes. Later, he flew a captured bomber to support the ground forces, saluting the soldiers of the 93rd in a moment of mutual respect.

Operation Watchtower

In 1944, Jackson met Carver Butcher in the Solomon Islands. Butcher sought him out as “the best pilot in this war” for a new special task force. At first, Jackson declined, not seeing the fame he craved. Mateo, however, convinced Butcher that Jackson was the right choice. This led to his recruitment into Task Force Vanguard.

Berlin and Task Force Vanguard

Under Arthur Kingsley, Task Force Vanguard infiltrated a train in Hamburg in search of Project Phoenix documents. Jackson was suspicious of Kingsley’s leadership but followed orders. When the mission went wrong, Jackson was the only one to escape capture.

Instead of fleeing, he planted a bomb on his plane and allowed himself to be captured to rejoin his teammates. Though his decision caused tension, Kingsley persuaded the others that Jackson was still valuable. Together, they escaped imprisonment, confronted Richter, and pursued Phoenix leader Hermann Freisinger.

Jackson’s role in Berlin highlighted both his reckless nature and his loyalty to the team when it mattered most.

Wade Jackson in Call of Duty: Mobile

Jackson was introduced in Call of Duty: Mobile on February 28, 2024, during Season 2: Lunar Dragon. Players could unlock him through the Dynastic Steel Lucky Box. His addition expanded his presence in the franchise beyond Vanguard.
