What is Dota 2?

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed and published by Valve. The game is a sequel to Defense of the Ancients (DotA), which was a community-created mod for Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion pack, The Frozen Throne. Dota 2 is played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on the map.

How does Dota 2 work?

Each of the ten players independently control a powerful character, known as a "hero", who all have unique abilities and differing styles of play. During a match, players collect experience points and items for their heroes to successfully defeat the opposing team's heroes in player versus player combat. A team wins by being the first to destroy a large structure located in the opposing team's base, called the "Ancient", which is protected by heavily fortified defensive structures.

How to improve your skills in Dota 2

One of the most attractive parts of playing DOTA is that no matter how good you are, you can always improve. New heroes and styles are released out all the time. Find out how to assimilate them quickly and master them easily.

Almost all players are continually striving to improve their game, whether they're focusing on small flaws in their game or are trying to see how things went differently than how they expected them to go. As you practice more, you start to understand the game differently, and your thoughts evolve along with your understanding of the sport.

The highest level your hero can get to is 25 in a single game, but internally, you are constantly levelling up. If you want to master anything, the best way to begin is "learning to learn". The way to do this is by helping yourself to obtain new skills seamlessly and avoid falling into habits that will slow you down long-term. As we all know, experience and practice are critical to getting better at something.

What about becoming a 6k MMR ranked player? Getting to that rank means that you're well into the top 1% of players. To get better at anything requires a certain amount of sacrifice and self-discipline. What are you prepared to compromise to reach that goal? Do you have the hours to commit? Will it be worth it?

We know, you still want a high MMR. That's totally understandable that you want to engage in better games, with better players and opponents. If you want to get to 4k, and you're currently 2k, trying to make that happen in one go is a collosal task.

Break your overall goal down into manageable milestones - getting to 2.5K, getting to 3K, etc. To keep a good feedback loop, you have to keep moving towards your ultimate goal.

It is also vital to choose the right characters, the right teammates, and maintain updated hero and item knowledge, as well as awareness of advanced hotkeys and habits.
